Some people say that sick breast feeding mom should immediately breast feed her child and nurse him only with expressed boiled milk. But I have found out that this is wrong and people who are giving this advice do not know anything about breastfeeding.
So, what should a breast feeding mom do if she falls ill?
I read some literature and here what we have.
- The things which a sick breast feeding mom has to do depend upon the seriousness and type of her disease. If a breast feeding mom has a common virus infection, she can continue breastfeeding without any worries. Because:
- Together with mom’s milk a child started getting protective antibodies, and if to wean a child he can catch some infection also.
- If a mother weans a child, she would have to express her breast milk 5 or 6 times a day, what is very difficult with a high temperature.
- Most of the protective factors of breast milk are destroyed while boiling.
