Breastfeeding while Pregnancy. Needed Information

Sometimes mothers who are still nursing their babies find out that they are going to have one more baby. Rather surprised and at the same time very happy they start to think over all what is happening and understand that they do not know anything about breastfeeding while pregnancy.
So, here is some information for mothers who have appeared in such a situation.

Breastfeeding while pregnancy is quite a normal thing and you should not be worrying whether it is safe or not. Most of mothers continue breastfeeding while being pregnant and they do it rather successfully. But there are also things which you should take into account when breastfeeding while pregnancy.

First of all, in order to see whether your breastfeeding child gets enough of nutrition you should follow the weight of your baby and whether there is the reduction of lactation. If you see that your child does not get enough of nutrition, start giving formulas or solid food, if possible. In general, there is not such a problem if a lady is healthy and eats well. A woman who is breastfeeding while pregnancy has to eat three times more than usually, she should also get a lot of calcium and protein. It is very important to drink enough of water (not less than 8 glasses during a day). It can also be recommended to get extra calories and to take some vitamins. Do not ignore these recommendations.

Getting Pregnant while Breastfeeding. Possible or Not

Many mothers ask whether it is possible getting pregnant while breastfeeding. There is not one answer to this question, as everything what concerns human’s body depends upon its personal peculiarities.

In general ladies are usually not getting pregnant while breastfeeding. This is explained by the fact that when a lady is nursing her baby, her body produces hormones (prolactin) which stimulate lactation and at the same time prevent ovulation (by not giving the eggs an opportunity to be released from ovaries). As a result. a lady can’t get pregnant while breastfeeding during the first six months. But sometimes lady’s body does not produce enough quantity of prolactin (or because of some other reasons) and a lady has ovulation even before the 6th month of breastfeeding and of course such a lady can get pregnant.

A lady is safe from getting pregnant while breastfeeding, if:

  1. She completely breastfeeds her baby without any additions. The time between breastfeeding is rather small. Breastfeeding at night is a must.
  2. Her baby is less than six moths old.
  3. She hasn’t any signs of menstruation.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Books. Mother’s Library

breastfeeding booksI believe that every mother should have some useful books about breastfeeding and child upbringing. So, as for the books which I have picked up to be my best helpers during the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding, they are the following:

  1. The first book, which is of great importance for me now is “The Pregnancy Book: Month-by-Month, Everything You Need to Know from America's Baby Experts”. This pregnancy book has given me much of very essential information about my present state. I can see that the authors of the book (actually a married couple) have written everything from their own experience. The information is very easy-to-follow and includes all the interesting moments of the pregnancy. Now, I know everything which is waiting for me during next few months and I know the things which I have to be ready for.

Smoking and Breastfeeding Are Incompatible Things

Smoking and BreastfeedingOf course smoking and breastfeeding are two incompatible things if you wish your baby be a completely happy and healthy child. That is why pregnancy is always the great chance for a smoking lady to give up such a harmful habit. Moreover, to do it is always easier when you are pregnant as at this period your organism undergoes some changes and you often stop liking things which you eat or smelled before and vice versa. That is why you may even start feeling disgust to the taste and smell of the cigarettes. If you do not feel it, you’d still find the way not to smoke at least for the time of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

If you can’t give up smoking you should at least reduce the quantity of cigarettes you smoke. Of course smoking and breastfeeding is not very good but still it is not the reason not to breastfeed your baby. The doctors say that smoking and breastfeeding is not very harmful when you smoke less than twenty cigarettes a day. In this case your breastmilk is not completely safe for your baby but still the risk is minimal. And when you smoke more than twenty cigarettes a day your baby has a great risk to catch some terrible symptoms (vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.)
